This site includes a history research center, genealogical library, an operating blacksmith shop, a standing ditch tender cabin, an operational gold mining stamp mill and a collection of wagons and carriages among many other interesting displays. Visitors can also enjoy the outdoor grounds along the creek with a cool shady setting complete with picnic benches.

On display are art objects, pictures, mining tools, and weapons used in the 1854 Tong War. The Taoist temple is the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California. The Joss House draws over 20,000 visitors a year from all over the world.

The last large business occupant was Morris Hardware starting in 1945. In 1999, it was remodeled as Courthouse Square and now provides space for several small businesses. In this shopping square you can expect to find tasty treats that will help you refill your tank as you walk through town. Enjoy the vibrant local art. Grab a memento or two from any of the local artisan shops to commemorate this trip.

The first courthouse building constructed in 1853 was destroyed by fire in 1856. It was re-built in 1857 by Henry Hocker as a hotel, store and saloon. Located at the North end of Historic Main Street, this functioning courthouse serves as a cornerstone landmark in Weaverville's Historic District.

It was built by Fred Walters in 1855. This building was among the first ‘fire-proof’ brick buildings with iron doors and shutters. This design confined the fire of 1861 to the inside of the building.
